Since buying the practice from Steven’s father Ian in 2017 as a franchise resale, Cameron and Steven have followed the franchise’s business model and embraced every commercial opportunity to scale and grow their business to its full potential.
“Having looked at TaxAssist with my father back in 2010 when he became a franchisee, I was really impressed with the business model, so when he suggested we purchase the business it was an opportunity not to be missed,” said Steven, who is an ICAS member and previously managed his own businesses and worked at senior level in the energy industry.
“My father built an outstanding business, which is well respected within our small business community and we’ve very much enjoyed building on the firm foundations he established.
“Growing our own practice and working in the small business community has always been our ambition. We are passionate supporters of small business as the lifeblood of the local community, and training and supporting our staff to fulfil their potential and ambitions.
Indeed, Cameron and Steven’s hard work has been recognised when they won at the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s Northern Star 2021 Business Awards and receiving the ‘Staff Matter’ award for continuous staff development and support, with Assistant Accountant George Strachan named ‘Rising Star’ for all the help he has provided clients.
“I really like the ethos of TaxAssist Accountants. It’s a great commercial business opportunity, but at its core, it is a supportive network with a friendly and approachable feel which trickles through the entire organisation, helping to retain staff and attract clients.
“It is also incredibly agile, continually innovating on marketing and business development initiatives, software recommendations and best practice, taking a huge workload off my shoulders. The launch of in-house tax, payroll and financial services is a really exciting new development, providing new services for our clients with additional income streams which only adds to the benefits of being a part of the franchise.”
Having grown the team to 16, Cameron and Steven now look after more than 1,400 clients across their four shops in Aberdeenshire.
