Badi Ceren and Michael Harrison have been TaxAssist Accountants since May 2019 and have built up a substantial practice in Victoria. In 2022, keen to capitalise on the brand’s success in the area, they opened a new walk-in shop in Abbotsford, Melbourne.

What initially attracted you to becoming a TaxAssist franchisee?

The eye catching branding (blue and yellow and Dollar sign), the friendly people that have treated us well since the very beginning and the idea of support from an expert accountant towards my tax agent registration.

How has being a part of the franchise helped you to grow your practice?

It allows me to focus on what I know best (tax law) and not have to spend time on things like social media, marketing, web design, it’s all done for me by the franchisor.

What do you think differentiates TaxAssist from the competition?

TaxAssist is fresh and innovative and is based on a well-known and established franchise in the UK.

TaxAssist clients are both individuals and small businesses, which is different to other franchises that focus purely on individuals.

What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to buy a TaxAssist Accountants franchise?

Do your due diligence, ask a lot of questions and make sure you get them all answered. Also consult a commercial lawyer.

What has the training and support from TaxAssist Accountants been like?

It is being enhanced all of the time. Managing Director Mandy Sigaloff works hard to provide a support team who ensure all franchisees are being fully supported and taken care of.

It is great to see the network expanding, and to develop strong relationships with my fellow franchisees and to see how well each franchise is growing.

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?

Yes, I never thought I would be able to run my own accounting business. With the support of my partner and TaxAssist, this is now a reality. I wish I had made the decision to become a Franchisee sooner!

Slowly I am getting the flexibility to do what I want, which is to focus on running the business rather than working in it, and to focus on what I love most, networking and meeting other business owners that need help with their tax compliance.

What are your plans for the future?

We would like to expand by acquiring another practice in the near future.
